Covenants - PT3

The Abrahamic Covenant is also an unconditional covenant. With this covenant, God was the only required to act. He made promises to Abraham that were dependent on his obedience as with Adam. This covenant consisted of three parts. The first being a promise of land, the second was that of his descendants being as numerous as the sand on the seashore or as numerous as the stars in the sky; and the third was that God would bring redemption through his people. The Abrahamic Covenant is also an everlasting covenant which extends to the future kingdom of Christ. It was prophesied that Israel would be restored and redeemed as promised by God. The good news for everyone is that we all now have the same promise and access to Gods kingdom because of the Messiah that was a descendent of Abraham (www.compellingtruth.org).

The Mosaic Covenant was made between God and the people of Israel. It was named after Moses, the man God chose to lead His people. This convent was a conditional; both God and the people of Israel had conditions that needed to be met. The people had to follow the law and in return God promised to protect them and provide blessings. The blessing or punishments were based on the obedience or disobedience of the people. We know that the people of Israel had a hard time keeping the laws of God although they stated that all the Lord asked them to do they would do. Some use this covenant to say that God contradicts His word, however, we know that He is incapable of doing so. For me this law shows man need for God and even the more need for His grace. Like the children of Israel, if it was not for His grace and mercy where would we be? Better yet, where would I be?

Now the Palestinian Covenant is closely related to the Mosaic Covenant and is an extension of the Abrahamic Covenant. This covenant is unconditional and has to do with what God promises to do for Israel regardless of their obedience. It was made when the children of Israel were in Moab waiting to enter into the promise land. The Palestinian Covenant deals with Gods promise to give the people of Israel the promise land. This land is now known as Palestine and that is where the name of the covenant comes from. After forty years in the wilderness, the children of Israel entered into the promise land.
